Look good in leather (when the weather finally cools down)...

I have an amazing leather jacket that I purchased from Kookai last year, the problem is that living here in QLD I hardly ever get to wear it. We have rain forecast all weekend here on the Sunshine Coast however the temperature is still going to be 26 degrees on Saturday, reaching all the way up to 30 degrees by next Thursday.

I know, I know I shouldn't be complaining about it being warm here, I'm just eager to start pulling out my winter wardrobe! Most of my friends who enjoy fashion tend to think the same thing as it gets closer to the end of a season. I guess it's human nature to always be anxious for 'what's next'. I know that I personally need a constant reminder to be happy just 'being' in the current moment. At one point I was actually considering having the quote 'be in the moment' tattooed to my wrist so I would constantly see it. A drastic measure I know, but I really do feel that its one of the most important reminders that we can be given. If anything, all of the recent disasters around the globe should be enough to make us all appreciate the 'now'. I know I'm definitely going to make it a priority to remind myself of it.

So, back to today's post. Yes, I would love to get more wear out of my leather jacket, I've even been looking for new ideas on how I will wear it this winter. Leather jackets really are one of the most versatile items of clothing you can own, even if you don't get to wear it as often as you'd like, a leather jacket will go with pretty much EVERYTHING. See said examples above, even blogger Chiara from theblondesalad.com and her 'yeti' boots look pretty good!

Trend Alert - White boots!

Wow! I must say, I love this entire outfit!

At first I was shocked to notice the white boots. I mean, I don’t think I’ve seen someone wearing anything like this since well, possibly princess Leia in Star Wars?

This is the reason why I love street style photography blogs such as StockholmStreetStyle, Street Peeper and Vanessa Jackman though. They continually provide a never-ending stream of creative, original and unexpected style inspiration. Yesterday I would have laughed if someone suggested I add a pair of white boots in any shape or form to an outfit, today after seeing this clever ensemble, I’m ready to rock a pair of white boots and 90's printed leggings  with the confidence of John Travolta in the opening scene of Saturday Night Fever... Ok, that's an exaggeration but I am game to give them a try!

So are we going to see a return of the ‘white boot’ as a key fashion trend? In the 60’s it was common place to see knee high white boots worn with mini skirts and mod style dresses, and in the mid 80’s I remember being desperate for a pair white leather ankle boots.

Trend or not, this is one cool outfit from the printed leggings, ripped tee shirt and shaggy vest. It’s fresh, perfectly balanced and looks totally comfortable. I’m putting all of these items on my winter wish list!

Blogger Style: Nini Nguyen

I'm kind of obsessed with a new photography/street style blog I found just recently. www.citizencouture.com has been providing me with a quality daily dose of beautiful street style photography and impeccable style inspiration. I don't subscribe to many websites anymore as my inbox is already out of control, however I didn't want to miss an update on one of my new favourite blogs so I gave in and subscribed. Today I received my first update and wowsers! This photo of blogger and stylist Nini Nguyen just blew me away. I can't even pinpoint what it is about it that I love most, is it her super chic pixi haircut (since Emma Watson and Ashlee Simpson's got the chop I've been seriously considering it), is it those perfectly shaped and shaded sunglasses, or maybe it's the divine coral shade of lipstick she's wearing...  Whatever it is, this photo is simply stunning and now I want a new haircut, pair of sunnies, and to dress in head to toe black. Love love LOVE this!

Jersey drop crotch trousers. AKA - poo catcher pants

Browsing a few street style blogs today, one very distinct trend on the Vanessa Jackman Blog was what she stated as “Jersey drop crotch trousers “ or as my husband would call them, ‘poo catcher pants’.

This style having been around a few seasons now, and previously in other decades, it’s one trend I’ve never really ventured into. There are many who have though (resulting in a look really not so good) but there are definitely some clever fashionistas that have worked the trend to perfection.

My husband was actually standing with me in a store the first time I innocently picked up a pair of these pants a while back. He just looked at me (with sheer horror in his eyes) and said ‘please no’. Having been married for quite a while now he realizes he doesn’t get a lot of say in what crazy outfits I choose to wear, although seeing the fear in his eyes this one day, I decided that maybe this was one trend I would give a miss.

Looking at these images today though, I'm thinking that these pants can actually look pretty darn cool. Admittedly the crotches in these one's below aren't as low and baggy many I've seen. I think it's quite a happy medium & I'm kinda really liking it... What do you think?
